About the exhibition

In cooperation with the young Charlottenburg , "Vanitas Fair" was created - a week-long exhibition format that playfully and allegorically explores the format of the still life in modern and contemporary art.

Selected works from our upcoming third floor auction will be complemented and contrasted by contemporary positions from the gallery. The contemporary works can be purchased during the exhibition period from 8 December to 16 December at Galerie Anton Janizewski, Goethestraße 69. Our works, in turn, will be auctioned in the from 20 December 2023 to 7 January 2024.

The term "vanitas" goes back to the (incomprehensible) idea of one's own finiteness, indistinguishably caught up in the same concept as "vanity". In terms of art history, vanitas still lifes are paintings that operate with the symbol of the skull - but precisely in their preoccupation with death, they also stand for radical vitality.

Grisebach, in cooperation with the young Charlottenburg Galerie Anton Janizewski, is delighted to present "Vanitas Fair“ – a one-week exhibition about still lifes in modern and contemporary art.

Selected works from our upcoming Third Floor Auction will meet contemporary works from the gallery. The contemporary works can be purchased at Galerie Anton Janizewski from 8 to 16 December. Our works will be offered as part of the Online Only Auction from 20 December 2023 through 7 January 2024.
